Roasted Jerk Corn

August 12, 2018August 12, 2018 / Ian Tripp / Leave a comment

Kim and I have been getting our produce lately through a Raleigh based non-profit called The Produce Project, a fantastic share organization that allows you to "pitch in" towards a weekly bulk farmer's market purchase, which saves money for you and helps put food in the pantries of those without - their profits go towards … Continue reading Roasted Jerk Corn

The Dutch Baby

July 5, 2018July 5, 2018 / Ian Tripp / Leave a comment

The Dutch baby is a favorite of mine because if you have your basic pantry and fridge staples, then you have the goods to make a baby. It is also a favorite of mine because the DB needs no real invitation to the table - baby is always in the right place whether it is on … Continue reading The Dutch Baby

Sonoran Tortillas

May 30, 2018May 31, 2018 / Ian Tripp / Leave a comment

If you don't want to read a book and just want the recipe, click here. Last September I traveled to Arizona to visit my girlfriend's family, with this being the first time I ever laid eyes on a desert in person. Stepping out of the airport in Tucson, I immediately felt the vast difference in … Continue reading Sonoran Tortillas

Pan Seared Steak

April 13, 2018April 13, 2018 / Ian Tripp / Leave a comment

If you're new to searing or would love a refresher, check out this post on the technique. I grew up with an unspoken family tradition where every Saturday night (or sometimes Friday, but usually Saturday) in the spring and summer we would have a meal of salad, a baked potato, and a grilled steak. To … Continue reading Pan Seared Steak

Coffee: One Broke Gastronome’s Primer

April 6, 2018April 6, 2018 / Ian Tripp / 1 Comment

I don't always come to a blog's recipe to read a book, I just want the goods. If that's you, click on the method link here. Coffee has grown on me. It has replaced beer as my favorite non-water beverage within the last year or so, and much like beer, there is an entire world … Continue reading Coffee: One Broke Gastronome’s Primer

Crumby Monday
Loafing around before work this morning. I ain't mad at overripe bananas. . . . . . . . #foodblog #baking #bread #caryeats #rdueats #bananas #crust #sweets #northcarolina
This curried dal recipe by @icookandpaint is fantastic. The affordability of homecooked Indian food and the heavy use of spices gives a high ROI. If I can suggest anything, it's to buy whole spices from your local international food store and grind them at home - I use a mortar and pestle. You use less spices as the potency of freshly ground spices is high.
This never gets old. @lodgecastiron Dutch ovens are a kitchen must have. They're so much more than just a heavy pot.
This is one of my favorite things to come out of the kitchen lately. The spices and the crispy ranch bread crumbs were a sensory overload. I didn't take the time to get the best pictures, because we were ready to hammer these things. Sorry 'bout it. Link in the bio!
I now want to pickle everything.
